We got Jackson off his paci (he only used it at naptime) when he was about 18 mos. Since he wasn't talking at the time, and was only starting to figure out how to sign paci, I just started acting like I didn't know what he wanted and he quit cold turkey. I'm glad he did because I was worried about bite problems later on (I had bite problems) and also I read it can contribute to a speech delay by changing the shape of the mouth.
I've heard a lot of moms cut the tip off (gradually) - the paci then loses its "suck" and kids don't want them after that. Good luck!
